holidaze

I've realized that the holidays are a time of extremes. On the one hand, they can bring families together in some big happy heartfelt camp counselor moment. On the other hand, they can also be pretty depressing.

Take, for example, this exchange George and I had while he was dropping me off at the airport on Christmas Day:

George: So what'd you do for lunch?

Me: Well...I tried going to Burger King, but that was closed. Then I tried going to Safeway, and that was closed. So then I went home and ate a slice of deli turkey.

George: That's...really sad...

Me: ...Merry Christmas.

While not eating anything for lunch isn't nearly depressing on any other day, the holidays come with expectations, and it's these expectations that tend to make the holidays more disappointing than not (also see: New Year's, Valentine's Day, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day).

Here's hoping your holidays lean toward the happier, Kodak moment side of things.
