It amazes me sometimes how often people like to point out the obvious. Take, for example, my sister turning to me the other day and saying, "you have a pimple on your nose."
Yes, I am aware there is a pimple on my nose. It hurts. There also happens to be a mirror in every bathroom in the house.
I think the most common obvious statement, though, is: "You got a haircut." It's one thing to follow that statement up with an opinion: "You got a haircut...and it looks good." or "You got your hair cut...by a lawnmower?"
But when the person simply states that you got a haircut, with nothing added to it, then it becomes puzzling. Is the person pointing it out because they don't think I realize I paid $12 to sit in a chair for 20 minutes while someone lopped off my hair? Oh, thank you for stating that - I was wondering why my head felt colder.
Of course, one day I'm going to pass out, someone's going to cut my hair as a joke, all the mirrors and reflective surfaces in the world will have mysteriously vanished, and then I'll really regret not having anybody tell me about my newly shortened hair.
Until I touch my head, that is.
